Who Am I

I’m a computer programmer and aspiring science fiction writer.

For about 40 years, I’ve built software, and lots of it. For about 20 of those years, I was involved in fintech. It started with EFA Software, where we sold electronic trading, clearing, settlement, depository, and registry systems around the world. Sadly, it went bankrupt in 2002, and some of us formed Alberta Market Solutions, providing consulting services in capital markets to IBM, Deutsche Borse, Synthesis Bank, PatSystems, and others. We also founded BIDS Trading, a NASDAQ-registered broker dealer running an ATS to facilitate block trades for institutional investors, acting as a dark pool. BIDS was purchased by CBOE in 2021.

While I am still staying involved in software and fintech (hoping to announce something new next year!), I am also exploring the creative side of things as a writer of science fiction. I participated in (and ‘won’) NaNoWriMo 2022, and am hoping to finish and publish my first novel in 2022. My creative endeavours are through Vintrock Studios Ltd.

That’s me. I have broad set of interests, opinions on things (usually grounded in provable facts), and am always looking to learn and grow.

In addition to the links in my profile, I am also on Post and Mastodon.
